To start our new History topic Class 3 were given artefacts to explore. As groups, we asked ourselves questions we thought archaeologists might ask themselves; what is it made from? Have I seen anything similar before? Why might it be shaped like that? What's similar? What's different? Following these discussions we tried to order the artefacts from oldest to youngest and then place them on a timeline using British History for reference.
The children did an amazing job being detectives of History and thinking like archaeologists. At the end we were all surprised to learn just how old the civilisations were that these artefacts were from: Ancient Sumer, the Indus Valley and Shang Dynasty. We're very excited to learn more about these fascinating places.
